    StormWatch Fabric Hurricane Shutters

StormWatch produces high-end fabric hurricane shutters that are strong, attractive and easy to install and deploy.

StormWatch Mesh Fabric Hurricane Shutters are most often used to protect patios, porches, porticoes and other larger areas...areas that are sometimes too big to be protected practically with accordions or roll-ups. Our Mesh shutters are available with a fabric trim for UV protection and color matching to the structure. Additionally, by enclosing a patio area with shutters, home or business owners can use this area to store furniture, barbecues, plants, etc. and have no need to shutter any openings like sliding glass doors inside the protected area. (Approval number: FL 10348)

What enables StormWatch products to work so well is our patent pending border clamp. By gripping the fabric with a mechanical clamp, rather than point loading it with grommets or sewn attachment points, the immense loads of hurricane force winds and debris impacts are evenly distributed. This clamp is not subject to degradation over time, as structural stitching is. Additionally, edge rigidity makes it easy for users to roll the panels up and store them in place year-round. The color cover allows the shutter to either blend in, or become an accent piece.

    Article Excerpt:

Chase Hurricane features a new product, StormWatch Fabric Shutter, designed to safeguard the home's patio or lanai. These shutters are rated to withstand 150-mph winds, and can be rolled up for permanent attachment eliminating the need for panel storage and without having shutters on all the windows. The patio can then be used to store patio furniture and grill equipment. Fabric shutters can be installed either top-to-bottom or side-to-side like panels.

These shutters are as attractive as they are durable. With thousands of colors to choose from, they are designed to blend into or complement your home's color scheme, and are attractive enough to leave attached year round.

"Now you See It..." by Ed Duggan

StormWatch in North Palm Beach has come up with a twist on typically utilitarian storm shutters: aesthetically pleasing high impact-resistant fabric shutters that roll up into an attractive holder.

It's sort of like a window shade for hurricanes that is invisible during the 99.9 percent of the time it's not in use. (The cost is $10 to $12.50 a square foot, plus permits and installation, which isn't' radically different from the cost of aluminum panels.)

A patent-pending border clamp holds the shutter firmly in place and distributes the stress evenly. It does away with the need for grommets, snaps, pins, and other fasteners.

"Citizens Property Insurance Corp. - and probably others - will be requiring openings protection for homes valued at $750,000 and more, so we knew we needed something more attractive and easier to deploy than what was already available for the upscale market," StormWatch co-founder Meridith Anzulis said.

The mesh fabric shutters can protect patios, porches, porticos and other larger areas that are frequently too big for accordion shutters or metal rollups.

"We have a strong focus on aesthetics, can color match to the structure, are certified by the Florida Building Commission and approved for use statewide, including the high-velocity hurricane zone," Anzulis said.

Mesh and clear panels are a new addition to hurricane protection. They allow us front-row seating for the most exhilarating of hurricanes, while the see-through fabric shutters are perfect for protecting your windows and sliding glass doors from pressure and debris.

Easy to install and uninstall, there are no sharp edges to cut your hands, and they can be rolled up for storage. Impact rated for "large missiles" according to the StormWatch web site, these panels are certified for up to 150mph winds and approved for use statewide.

The clear panel forever eliminates the feeling of being sealed into a tin can during a hurricane. These panels are also ideal for patios or overhangs adjacent to a patio, allowing the homeowner additional living space while waiting for the storm to pass.

In the western communities, these panels have become popular in stables and riding arenas, offering protection from the high winds and flying debris.

St. Petersburg Times: New Products for Hurricane Season

Clear fabric hurricane shutters by StormWatch allow a home's occupants to look out through protected windows. Those who lived through six weeks of hurricanes in 2004 recall the claustrophobia of living for extended periods in homes with shuttered windows.

The shutters are attached with a border clamp (no grommets, no stitched attachment points). That allows the manufacturer to use less fiber-dense fabrics, like the clear fabric.

Suggested retail for the clear fabric shutters is $12 per square foot plus installation and permits.

New hurricane product will debut at show

StormWatch Clear Fabric Hurricane Shutters are new to the market this hurricane season, and will debut as a certified hurricane shutter at the West Palm Beach Home & Garden Show in the Shut-It-Up booth.

The shutters are made of clear fabric, which are certified by the Florida Building Commission for use statewide, including the High Velocity Hurricane Zone of Miami-Dade and Broward counties. They will withstand 150 mph winds.

Trimmed with a UV-resistant fabric cover to protect them from the sun, the clear fabric allows light to come in while enabling the homeowner to see out. Dozens of standard and thousands of custom colors allow color-matches to complement the decor of any home.

Additionally, the patent-pending border clamp grips the entire edge of the fabric with a mechanical device, rather than point loading the fabric with grommets or sewn attachments points. The rigid border clamp makes it easy for homeowners to roll up even large patio shutters and store them in place year-round.

  • May 1, 2013: StormWatch to Debut Dual Screen Retractable Hurricane Protection System at SEBC
Roll-up Bug Screen and Roll-up Hurricane Shutter in One

JACKSONVILLE, FL – May 1, 2013 - StormWatch, a leading hurricane screen manufacturer, announced its dual screen retractable hurricane protection system this week. This new innovative system now allows consumers the convenience of having a roll-up bug screen or sun shade and roll-up hurricane shutter in one integrated unit. StormWatch's dual screen system solves the problem of how to fit multiple exterior retractable screens by combining two into a single housing unit. This new product will debut at the Southeast Building Conference in Orlando, FL on July 11-13, 2013 at the Orange County Convention Center in Booth 914.

The dual screen retractable hurricane protection system is the only product in the industry to combine a roll down hurricane shutter and bug screen or sun shade in a single housing unit. When motorized, the dual screen system operates via home automation, remote control, or wired switch. Maximizing the use and flexibility of patios and outdoor living rooms, the dual screen system protects patio contents during a hurricane, yet can also provide a solar shade or bug screen on a day to day basis.

"While we have long been an exclusive supporter of StormWatch's mesh hurricane products, we are excited to be able to offer the industry's only dual purpose roll down shutter and screen," said StormWatch dealer Chris Carr of Hurricane Proof in Delray Beach. "Our clients will now have the convenience of a permanently operable rolling screen for insect protection and shade, integrated with an incredibly strong rolling mesh hurricane protection system."

Tested and certified to Florida Building Code and International Building Code, StormWatch hurricane screens are engineered to the highest standards and can be installed in every wind-zone and exposure category.

StormWatch offers a full line of high-end, textile-based protection for homes and structures in hurricane-prone areas. More information about StormWatch systems is available at the company's website www.StormWatchINFO.com or by calling StormWatch toll free (866) 60-STORM (607-8676).

  • July 27, 2010: Hurricane Protection Becomes an Architectural Design Element
Hurricane Protection Becomes an Architectural Design Element

JACKSONVILLE, FL - July 27, 2010 - Hurricanes have not deterred most people from continuing to build and re-build along the U.S. coast lines. StormWatch hurricane screens provide an effective and aesthetically pleasing way to be prepared and meet hurricanes code requirements.

StormWatch’s fabric hurricane screens are designed to blend in with the exterior design of a home or business. It is the only company to integrate coordinating covers with storm shutters. The color can conceal the shutter in its non-deployed state or accent the look of the house, allowing the architect a choice in how to include the screens in the design. The covers are available in hundreds of colors that protect the screen from the sun, and allow the shutters to blend into the décor of the home.

"Hurricane proofing is mostly in a non-deployed state, so we design our screens to blend with the architectural design rather than detract from it," explains Michael Murray, President of StormWatch. "We put a lot of energy into making our products look good."

Every StormWatch hurricane screen is custom manufactured to a set of measurements so that it fits precisely to the structural elements of a building. This is what allows a shutter system to resist the wind-load and perform as expected during a hurricane.

"Our patent-pending anchor connection clamps and solid fiberglass battens hidden in the top and bottom edges of the screens are key elements in the strength of the system," says Murray.

Tested and certified to the highest recognized standard in the industry, the High Velocity Hurricane Zone of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, StormWatch screens are engineered to withstand 150 mph winds with direct coastal exposure and can be installed in any wind-zone.

StormWatch offers a full line of high-end, textile-based protection for homes and structures in hurricane-prone areas. More information about StormWatch systems is available at the company's website www.StormWatchINFO.com or by calling StormWatch toll free (866) 60-STORM (607-8676).

  • October 1, 2008: StormWatch Offers Attractive Hurricane Shutter Alternative for Citizens Customers Affected by New "Openings Protection" Requirement
StormWatch Offers Attractive Hurricane Shutter Alternative for Citizens Customers Affected by New "Openings Protection" Requirement

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA - October 1, 2008 - Citizens Property Insurance has announced that all homes within the Wind Borne Debris Region (WBDR) of Florida with insured values in excess of $750,000 will be required to have "openings protection" by their policy's renewal date in 2009. StormWatch is pleased to offer fabric hurricane shutters that combine the effectiveness requirements of the insurance company with the aesthetic requirements of the home owner at a reasonable price.

StormWatch fabric hurricane shutters are approved by the Florida Building Commission for use statewide, including the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. They are considered Class A shutters by the insurance industry and qualify for the largest policy discounts offered.

StormWatch President Michael Murray said, "We are concerned that homeowners affected by this legislation may feel rushed into complying, but we want them to know that there are good product options out there."

Murray went on to say, "StormWatch shutters cost less than accordions, and are more flexible in where they can be installed; they work particularly well to protect patio areas and everything they contain. Our patent-pending UV covers are available in different colors and allow the shutters to blend into the home when not in use. When a storm does threaten, simply release the straps and fasten the shutters in place."

The strength of StormWatch fabric hurricane shutters is due to patent-pending anchor points; four times stronger than grommets, and not subject to UV degradation like straps-and-buckles.

StormWatch Announces First Clear Fabric Hurricane Shutter
With the release of this shutter, StormWatch has changed the way people view hurricane protection

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA - May 16, 2007 - This week, the Florida Building Commission approved the first ever Clear Fabric Hurricane Shutter for use throughout the entire state, including the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Also known as the Miami-Dade standard, HVHZ approval is the highest standard of product approvals.

The StormWatch Clear Fabric Hurricane Shutters are designed, tested, and certified to protect homes from pressure and debris in winds up to 150 MPH. The shutters' best feature, however, is the fact that they are clear, allowing homeowners to see through them while deployed.

Jack Krause of Boynton Beach said, "Finally! No more living in a cave!

The StormWatch Clear Fabric Hurricane Panel can be used to protect windows and sliding glass doors. Because the fabric is nonporous, wind and water cannot penetrate the opening.

StormWatch President Michael Murray said, "We are thrilled to provide Floridians with clear fabric hurricane shutters that are easy-to-use, and easy-to-live with. And, because you can see through them, leaving them deployed will be much more pleasant than traditional hurricane protection."

Homeowners who choose not to leave the product deployed will be pleased to see how easily the panels roll up and store in place right above the window, or, can be completely removed and stored out of sight.

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA - October 12, 2006
StormWatch announces its participation in the "Fortify Florida" event, sponsored by the Florida Department of Financial Services. On Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, exhibitors and workshop presenters will show homeowners how to strengthen their homes to prevent hurricane damage. Admission is free.

StormWatch will demonstrate its innovative new roof protection system and same-day installable window protection system. The StormWatch systems are easy to install, inexpensive, and offer effective ways to prevent damage caused by hurricane winds and wind-borne projectiles.

"In a time of ever increasing insurance costs, and decreasing coverage, the StormWatch systems offer a viable alternative to save homeowners money and protect their property," says StormWatch's founder, Michael Murray.

Additionally, StormWatch Vice President, Meridith Anzulis, will be leading a breakout session on these products.

    About StormWatch:
StormWatch offers a full line of textile-based protection for homes and structures in hurricane-prone areas. The StormWatch roof protection system works by covering the roof with super strong StormMesh, which is then secured with the StormClamp and anchored to the home's foundation. Once the panels are in place, wind loads are transferred to the home's foundation, instead of to the roof, thereby easing the strain on the roof and keeping the structure intact, as well as keeping the shingles or tiles on the roof. The StormWatch window protection system uses any strength-rated fabric to protect a home's windows from wind and water. The system can be installed on-site in one day, and can work in any configuration on any home or structure.
